President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. recently signed a bill meant to support Philippine craftsmanship, products, and services into law. Known as Republic Act 11981, or the Tatak Pinoy Act, the law is the government’s action meant to strengthen local industries and enhance the Philippines’ economic standing to match the global standard. According to a statement by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the Tatak Pinoy Act is more than just supporting Filipino-made products. Rather, the law is all-encompassing and is meant to support the Filipino craftsmen who are behind local products.

“The Tatak Pinoy is more than a branding exercise as it is about incubating and incentivizing great products that deserve to carry the ‘made in the Philippines’ trademark,” Marcos said. “It’s not about simply slapping labels on goods and services but showing their provenance, proudly, that they are ‘Tatak Pinoy’.”

At its core, RA 11981 highlights the government’s commitment to create a supportive environment for Filipinos in order to achieve both local and global economic development. For the construction industry, the Tatak Pinoy Act has the potential to push innovation and improve local product quality and can push Philippine products and craftsmanship as a standard in the global market. While RA 11981 puts a lot of focus on locally made products, it also has the potential to develop the Philippine infrastructure industry. In this article, we will discuss what Republic Act 11981, or the Tatak Pinoy Act is, its purpose, and the infrastructure-related components included in the newly signed law.

Ano Nga Ba Ang Tatak Pinoy Act O RA 11981?

The Tatak Pinoy Act, or RA 11981, is a law that highlights the Philippine government’s commitment to strengthening local entrepreneurs and businesses. With the strategies in the Republic Act, the current administration can increase the Philippines’ global value chain and provide economic empowerment, especially to the Filipino people. With the enactment of the newly passed law,  domestic production and innovation will be allocated more support from the local government and drive Philippine products and services to the international stage.

The Infrastructure-Related Components of the Tatak Pinoy Build Act

Infrastructure development under the Tatak Pinoy Act involves close coordination between the Tatak Pinoy Council and key government agencies. According to Section 8 of RA 1198, below are the following Philippine agencies that will commit to the strategic planning and execution of the Tatak Pinoy Act in relation to local infrastructure:

  • Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)
  • Committee on Infrastructure (InfraCom, NEDA Board)
  • Department of Education (DepEd)
  • Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)
  • Department of National Defense (DND)
  • Department of Transportation (DOT)
  • Department of Tourism (DOT)
  • Philippine Space Agency (PhilSA)

These government agencies are assigned to collaborate to ensure the strategic planning and execution of infrastructure projects meant to support advanced research, innovation, and incubation facilities crucial for our economic growth. Moreover, the Act also emphasizes utilizing locally produced construction materials, which is a strategic move that can support the development of the local construction industry. This approach can also increase job creation for Filipino craftsmen and construction workers, who have always been important individuals who contribute to the enhancement of the country’s overall economic stability.

The Implications of RA 11981 to the Local Construction Industry

The implementation of RA 11981 holds significant importance for the Philippines’ construction industry. With the Act’s emphasis on using locally produced construction materials, the Tatak Pinoy Act will promote domestic manufacturing and production. As a result, more jobs in the sector will be created, and the Philippine economy can achieve substantial growth.

Apart from this, the integration of technology and innovation into construction processes can increase efficiency, which leads to a reduction of costs and better project outcomes. While it requires the participation of various departments in the country, proper follow-through of the Tatak Pinoy strategy can mean increased support, innovation, and investment for the construction industry—an objective aimed at supporting the overall development and competitiveness of the Philippine economy in the global market.
