The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has completed the construction of a farm-to-market road (FMR) in Davao City. This newly paved road, located in the Paquibato District, marks a significant development in enhancing the accessibility and connectivity of rural areas to the urban center.
The two-lane Barangay Colasas FMR is 500 meters long and 5.2 meters wide, with a Portland cement concrete pavement and two-meter gravel shoulders on both sides. The project was implemented by the DPWH Davao City District Engineering Office and funded with P11.82 million from government sources, with local government units involved.

The completion of the Paquibato District’s FMR was reported by DPWH Regional Office 11 Director Juby B. Cordon to DPWH Secretary Manuel M. Bonoan and Undersecretary for Mindanao Operations Eugenio R. Pipo Jr. on May 30.
“The paving of the FMR in Barangay Colasas is a testament to the DPWH’s commitment to President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s goal of fostering development even in the most remote areas in the country,” said Cordon.
A New Farm-to-Market Road For Farmers In Davao City
The DPWH has consistently worked on infrastructure projects to improve transportation across the Philippines. Agriculture is crucial to Davao City’s economy, but poor road conditions have hindered farmers in the Paquibato District. The new road addresses these challenges by facilitating easier transportation of goods.
The new road provides significant economic benefits. Farmers in Barangay Colasas can now transport their rice, corn, and vegetables more efficiently to Davao City and other parts of the area, while reducing transportation costs and logistics time. Director Juby B. Cordon of DPWH Regional Office 11 emphasized that the road improves access to social services and market opportunities for residents.
Future Plans for The Region
The DPWH plans to develop more farm-to-market roads in Davao City and surrounding areas to connect more remote regions to urban centers. Sustainability measures, including community involvement in maintenance, are in place to ensure that the roads are well-kept and remain accessible to local residents for a long time. This initiative is for the continued development and support of regional growth and agricultural prosperity of the country.
The completion of the Barangay Colasas farm-to-market road is a significant achievement in improving rural infrastructure in Davao City. This project underscores the DPWH’s commitment to supporting local agriculture and enhancing connectivity. The long-term benefits for the community are substantial and promise a more prosperous future for Filipino farmers in Mindanao.
