The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) previously reported that the Philippines is likely to experience more cyclones this 2024 compared to last year. PAGASA also previously reported that they projected 13 to 16 cyclones to occur this year, which is an increase from 11 storms compared to last year, and that there is a 62% chance that La Niña will develop during June to August.
According to PAGASA’s Climate Monitoring Chief Ana Liza Solis, “We will experience the possible effects of La Niña during the last quarter of the year.” Therefore, President Marcos’ order to the DPWH is very crucial and time-sensitive, since we are already in the month where PAGASA predicted the arrival of La Niña in the country.
